| Walworth County Performing Arts Council In 1990, a shuttered and decrepit Sprague Theatre was nearly torn down before Lakeland Players purchased the old building with the help of some generous donations. Lakeland Players formed a unique entity, the Walworth County Performing Arts Center, to take on the task of renovating the theatre into a performing arts center. Under the leadership of an all-volunteer group, the old building has come to life again. Major projects accomplished include a new roof, new stage, new furnaces, reupholstering the auditorium seating, and a complete power washing and painting of the walls and ceilings. Once dim from years of smoke and dust, the colorful wall decorations sparkle again - yes, the original 1920s artwork. Notable recent projects include new side and stage doors, new stage curtains, and new glass in the marquee. Still to come: finishing the upholstery project (everyone is invited to stop by and tackle a seat!) and a deck over the inner lobby. The new second floor space would be used to store costumes and as a workstation for lighting technicians. The WaCPAC Director also coordinates usage of the theatre by other organizations.
