ABOUT THE PLAY

This is the 50th anniversary of this show opening on Broadway

Bus Stop

Synopsis: It is 1954 in a small Kansas diner, in the middle of a raging snow storm, and Grace (Sarah Kramer) the diner’s owner and Elma (Meagan Larson) a young, naïve waitress, are preparing for the arrival of the Topeka-bound bus. Will, the town sheriff played by Shawn Holmes, stops by and informs them that the roads are closed. Good news for Grace! Tonight’s bus is driven by her favorite driver, Carl (Tom Deichsel).

Grace and Wilma start to make preparations for a long night, when the bus arrives and the quiet of the diner is suddenly broken by the first passenger, Cherie (Jana Shaw), a night club chanteuse who is being taken to Montana against her will by a belligerent young cowboy (Bo, played by Matt Kramer) who intends to marry her whether she likes

it or not! Thankfully, Bo is accompanied by his pal and confidant, Virgil (Mark Drinnenberg) who is like a father to him and helps soothe some of his unbridled energy.  Also on the bus – with no particular destination in mind – is Dr. Gerald Lyman (Mike Walsh) who has an unhealthy attraction to alcohol and young women.

Each character learns about love and its consequences through a series of funny and dramatic experiences.
